week 8

This week we learned a lot of stuff online. We went on DDL and learned a lot of stuff about staying safe online and how people can stalk you so you don't give out information where other people can see it.

This week we learned words like:
Represent: How you present yourself to others.
Persona: An image or personality you portray to others.
Avatar: An image or graphic that represents you online.
Anonymous: Hidden identity.
Inhibited: Careful or restrained about your actions or impulse.

This week we learned how we can make our blogs fun and creative. It is on this web site called Glogster. You can make a blog but with pictures. It is very cool how it lets you put so many graphics and stuff on there. I made a gloster and had really fun with it. I didn't get to finish but ill show it to you anyways. I really liked the Glogster. I would diffently use this website again. the only thing that I didn't like about it was that it was not that easy to use, as in how it was difficult to find some stuff.

This week we learned how some people see themselves as a different person online. Some people just lives online and has friends online, but in real life they will might be someone different. This week when we was learning about this it made me think about the people that really do spend most of their time online.

FTC offers $50,000 to help stop illegal robocalls

Say no to robocalls.
November 1, 2008

Topic:
The topic is about how FTC is trying to help stop illegal robocalls.

Article Title:
Hate illegal robocalls? FTC offers $50,000 to help stop them

Article Source:
CNN Tech

Summary:
This article is about how robocalls annoy people and how people can tell if it is a fake one or not. Robocalls are an automated phone call that plays a recording. An all-time record of unwanted telemarketing calls of 3,840,572 or 70% was during 2012.

Reaction:
This event can help people in the U.S. to come up with ideas and help find a way to stop illegal robocalls. I don't think it is necessary for people to compete to find technological ways to curb illegal robocalls. This event won't help us get rid of the "robocalls" that just calls us to know who we are voting for, or for a survey. All the people can do is pick up the phone and if you are not doing anything then you can do what they won't you to do, but be careful what information you give out.

World Impact:
This event won't impact the world to much because its just robocalls. The only way it will effect you is if you give out to much information and it was a fake robocall. The fake robocall can get your bank account number and clear out your account. You won't have nothing left. Giving out information is very serious. and you should not do it unless you are very sure you know what your doing.

Week 8-9 Cyberbullying

These past two weeks we learned a lot about cyberbullying/bullying. Some of the words we learned this week was:
Target: Victim
Offender: The bully- malicious intent want to cause harm.
Bystander: Witness who does nothing.
Upstander: Witness who does something.
Escalate: Intensifies - increases.
De-escalate: Decreases situation.

If you are the target or the you want to be the upstander then you can so something about it.

Target you can...

  • Tell somebody.
  • Ignore.
  • Walk away.
  • No retaliation.
  • Block them.
  • Save evidence.
  • tell them to stop, face-to-face.
Upstander you can...

  • Talk to the bully/bullies.
  • actually do something.
  • Talk to the victim.
  • Help stop violence.
Cyberbullying is getting big in the U.S. and we need to stand up and do something about it. Did you know the bullying occurs in school playgrounds every 7 minutes and once every 25 minutes in class. Just in a month, two girls had committed suicide because they was getting bullied!

We had to make a movie about cyberbullying. We used WeVideo to make our videos. I made my movie on what cyberbullying did to effect me. I never told anyone my story because I was to scared to put it out there. My family has been through a lot and I know I'm not the only one out there that has a big problem in my family. Some parts in my video is not that true but must of it is. This is the first time I ever told anybody! So I decided to tell my story in my video. Hope you like it.

In the WeVideo we could do all sorts of things. This website is a great way to make great videos for projects or anything you need. I love this website because you can do anything on it. It was easy for me because I made a movie with flashcards but it was very confusing putting the music on there so I couldn't think of doing the different slides that other people did.

You can see cyberbullying everywhere now. No matter where you go there will be that one person that wants to act cool and make fun of people. Most people that has been bullied as a child will be a bully in middle/high school. This is a situation that we need to stop. Most people in middle school wont think about hurting peoples feelings for little things, but it can create a little fire that spreads until it burns every feeling  and life. Cyberbullying is very dangerous and we can do something about it.

I have been bullied and cyberbullied for long enough. People has hurt my feelings almost everyday in my life. If you watched my video then you will understand just some troubles I have went through. My problem is not the biggest but it is big enough for me to realize that I needed to put a stop to it.

These two weeks has been fun but hard at the same time. Early College is getting harder by the minute with all the work and projects we have to do plus keeping up with out college class. I am glad tomorrow is Friday. We get a half day, which is better then no half day. The regular Gaston County schools had a have day today and has no school tomorrow. We only have school because we want to get out in May instead of June.

I hope we get into our own building soon. They have been putting it off since August. We need to get in there and feel like school.

Mini IPad!

Google.com

Topic:
Rumor going around is that there is a smaller and cheaper version of the IPad.

Article Title:

Will an IPad Mini be worth buying?

Article Source:
CNN News

Summary:
The Mini IPad would be able to fit into your pocket or purse. Apple will might announce the Mini IPad as early as October 17! This would be a great little tool to carry around like a IPod but better!

Reaction:
This device sounds really great! Apple has already brought out the IPhone 5 not to long ago, and now they are putting a Mini IPad out. The Mini IPad would be a great thing for business people to help them with their work. Business people does not want to have all of the stuff on the phones so they could just put it on the mini IPad. This could be the start of a great generation to the electronic world.

World Impact:
This device will bring more and more devices out.

Week 7!

This semester and school year is already going so fast. I am glad to be apart of the first Gaston Early College High School Freshman. I love this school and everything about it. Our building is almost done, and I can't wait to get in our building and have the real fun. Most of my friends was telling me not to do it, because I wouldn't know anyone there and it wouldn't be any fun. I still came and I proved them wrong. I meet amazing and wonderful people, I am never alone, and we always have fun!
This week has went so fast, but we learned a lot of stuff. This week we learned about how to keep yourself and others safe online and off. Our words this week was:
  • Self-Disclosure: sharing private, sensitive, or confidential information about yourself to others.
  • Reciprocate: to give and return.
  • Sexting: sending or receiving sexually explicit photo or videos by text or other devices.
When we did Digital Drivers License I found some cool facts about sexting, like how sexting ( sex texting) has become a popular digital access issue and a concern with all the users of technologies. More than a quarter of young people say they have been involved in sexting is some form.
The problem about  how girls/guys that you never think that will do sexting usually are the ones that do it. Mostly girls are the ones taking the pictures and sending it to the boyfriends that ask for the pictures or they will break up with them. Boys that ask for the pictures and say that they love you are lairs. I they want I picture and are just saying "I love u" just to get a little picture, are guys that shouldn't deserve girlfriends. If you are in this situation then here is some things that can help you out.

Ways to avoid sexting:
  1. Don't text back.
  2. Break up with them if they don't respect you.
  3. Don't try to avoid them at school. That will only make things worse.
  4. Don't send the pictures.
  5. Stay away from people that do sexting.
  6. Don't carry yourself as a sex toy.
Sexting

Ways to build a relationship online:
  1. Stay positive.
  2. Have nice comments.
  3. Don't give them any ideas.
  4. Be true to yourself and others.
  5. Don't put others down.
  6. Don't fully trust strangers online.
Having a relationship online.

This week we made comic strips about sexting and how to avoid it. We made our comic strips on Make Beliefs Comix! Also we did another one on building a relationship online. I placed the comic strips beside the facts. I hope that you have enjoyed my blog this week. I know I am starting to like early college much better. See you next week!
