XPS 12

Topic:
XPS 12
Article Title:
Review: Dells's acrobatic XPS 12 is the Windows 8 convertible to beat.

Article Source:
ars technica

Summary:
Dell's XPS 12 is a touchscreen laptop and it is a tablet. The screen turns on its axis so it will become a tablet. The laptop is still a little bit heavy to be a smaller tablet.

Reaction:
This laptop could be a great tool. I really like how it can turn into a tablet so you can just finish what ever you was doing on your laptop. It would be a great way on how people go to school. They can just do their homework or research on the XPS 12. This laptop can lead to bigger and better things in the world. I would really like this laptop.

World Impact:
XPS 12 could make a major difference in the world. It could lead to a lot better things for our schools, jobs, and homes. I think we will start producing better things so more and more people can learn much easier. The only problem that I got is if the screen is durable. I wouldn't like to get the XPS 12 and turn it over and it just breaks.

iMacs

Topic:
Delayed iMacs.

Article Title:
Delayed 2012 iMacs may not be delayed after all.

Article Source:

ARS technica

Summary:
This article is about how the 21.5 inch and 27 inch iMacs will might still be coming out on time. Tim Cook said that Apple will might still have problems meet the deadline. Some people has already pre-ordered their iMacs for Christmas.

Reaction:
This event is a good thing, but some people will get mad if they don't come out when they are said they are supposed to.The iMacs are coming out at a great time. Christmas is coming up and that would be a great present. If it came out this week then it would be great for Black Friday. This is a great thing for technology and I think Apple will come up with bigger and better things.

World Impact:
This will impact the world in many ways. This is a great computer that is coming out because no one likes the big bulky key boards or computer screens. This computer has the body built in to the monitor. Since the monitor has everything in it then it makes the screen big. With older people wanting to learn more about technology then it is good for the iMacs so they can read it better then reular comeputer screens.

week 9

This week has been amazing!!! We finally moved into our new building. This building is so beautiful and I am happy that we are in it.

This week we learned some terms about computers so here is a list of them.
  • Track: When companies collect information about you based on your online behavior.
  • Target: When companies tailor content to you based on the information they have collected about you.
  • Demographic: Common categories of the population, such as age, gender, and race.
  • Cookies: Data files that are stored on your computer when you visit certain sites, which are often used by companies to identify repeat customers and personalize visitors' experiences
This week our web. 2.0 is Mixbook. Mixbook is where you can make a book of pictures online and its for free. I think the good thing about Mixbook is that you can design your own book for any occasion. The bad part is that it don't have that much calorful stuff for people to pick over.

How can these words relate to the idea of targeting and tracking? well first thing is that people can track you no matter how good you are good at computers and how much you delete your cookies. The secound thing is that being bad about some website using someone elses picture can be true and you won't have nothing to do about it.

Android 4.2 camera, gallery ported to Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean 4.1.1

Article Source
Engadget mobile

Summary
Jelly Bean 4.1.1 is coming up a new way to make your gallery and camera better. You can start editing pictures on your phone. This app can be found on so-last-month.

Reaction
This event can be good for people that wants to edit photos. This could be good for people and bad for people because everyone is the different. Personally I would not get this app because I wouldn't really find the use for it.

World Impact
This event could be so popular in so many ways and in so many countries. This is a great way to stay connected with friends and family. You could send this to your family members all across the world and have fun with it. You could also keep in touch with family members that are in the military. This is a great way to have fun.

week 8

This week we learned a lot of stuff online. We went on DDL and learned a lot of stuff about staying safe online and how people can stalk you so you don't give out information where other people can see it.

This week we learned words like:
Represent: How you present yourself to others.
Persona: An image or personality you portray to others.
Avatar: An image or graphic that represents you online.
Anonymous: Hidden identity.
Inhibited: Careful or restrained about your actions or impulse.

This week we learned how we can make our blogs fun and creative. It is on this web site called Glogster. You can make a blog but with pictures. It is very cool how it lets you put so many graphics and stuff on there. I made a gloster and had really fun with it. I didn't get to finish but ill show it to you anyways. I really liked the Glogster. I would diffently use this website again. the only thing that I didn't like about it was that it was not that easy to use, as in how it was difficult to find some stuff.

This week we learned how some people see themselves as a different person online. Some people just lives online and has friends online, but in real life they will might be someone different. This week when we was learning about this it made me think about the people that really do spend most of their time online.

FTC offers $50,000 to help stop illegal robocalls

Say no to robocalls.
November 1, 2008

Topic:
The topic is about how FTC is trying to help stop illegal robocalls.

Article Title:
Hate illegal robocalls? FTC offers $50,000 to help stop them

Article Source:
CNN Tech

Summary:
This article is about how robocalls annoy people and how people can tell if it is a fake one or not. Robocalls are an automated phone call that plays a recording. An all-time record of unwanted telemarketing calls of 3,840,572 or 70% was during 2012.

Reaction:
This event can help people in the U.S. to come up with ideas and help find a way to stop illegal robocalls. I don't think it is necessary for people to compete to find technological ways to curb illegal robocalls. This event won't help us get rid of the "robocalls" that just calls us to know who we are voting for, or for a survey. All the people can do is pick up the phone and if you are not doing anything then you can do what they won't you to do, but be careful what information you give out.

World Impact:
This event won't impact the world to much because its just robocalls. The only way it will effect you is if you give out to much information and it was a fake robocall. The fake robocall can get your bank account number and clear out your account. You won't have nothing left. Giving out information is very serious. and you should not do it unless you are very sure you know what your doing.

Week 8-9 Cyberbullying

These past two weeks we learned a lot about cyberbullying/bullying. Some of the words we learned this week was:
Target: Victim
Offender: The bully- malicious intent want to cause harm.
Bystander: Witness who does nothing.
Upstander: Witness who does something.
Escalate: Intensifies - increases.
De-escalate: Decreases situation.

If you are the target or the you want to be the upstander then you can so something about it.

Target you can...

  • Tell somebody.
  • Ignore.
  • Walk away.
  • No retaliation.
  • Block them.
  • Save evidence.
  • tell them to stop, face-to-face.
Upstander you can...

  • Talk to the bully/bullies.
  • actually do something.
  • Talk to the victim.
  • Help stop violence.
Cyberbullying is getting big in the U.S. and we need to stand up and do something about it. Did you know the bullying occurs in school playgrounds every 7 minutes and once every 25 minutes in class. Just in a month, two girls had committed suicide because they was getting bullied!

We had to make a movie about cyberbullying. We used WeVideo to make our videos. I made my movie on what cyberbullying did to effect me. I never told anyone my story because I was to scared to put it out there. My family has been through a lot and I know I'm not the only one out there that has a big problem in my family. Some parts in my video is not that true but must of it is. This is the first time I ever told anybody! So I decided to tell my story in my video. Hope you like it.

In the WeVideo we could do all sorts of things. This website is a great way to make great videos for projects or anything you need. I love this website because you can do anything on it. It was easy for me because I made a movie with flashcards but it was very confusing putting the music on there so I couldn't think of doing the different slides that other people did.

You can see cyberbullying everywhere now. No matter where you go there will be that one person that wants to act cool and make fun of people. Most people that has been bullied as a child will be a bully in middle/high school. This is a situation that we need to stop. Most people in middle school wont think about hurting peoples feelings for little things, but it can create a little fire that spreads until it burns every feeling  and life. Cyberbullying is very dangerous and we can do something about it.

I have been bullied and cyberbullied for long enough. People has hurt my feelings almost everyday in my life. If you watched my video then you will understand just some troubles I have went through. My problem is not the biggest but it is big enough for me to realize that I needed to put a stop to it.

These two weeks has been fun but hard at the same time. Early College is getting harder by the minute with all the work and projects we have to do plus keeping up with out college class. I am glad tomorrow is Friday. We get a half day, which is better then no half day. The regular Gaston County schools had a have day today and has no school tomorrow. We only have school because we want to get out in May instead of June.

I hope we get into our own building soon. They have been putting it off since August. We need to get in there and feel like school.

Mini IPad!

Google.com

Topic:
Rumor going around is that there is a smaller and cheaper version of the IPad.

Article Title:

Will an IPad Mini be worth buying?

Article Source:
CNN News

Summary:
The Mini IPad would be able to fit into your pocket or purse. Apple will might announce the Mini IPad as early as October 17! This would be a great little tool to carry around like a IPod but better!

Reaction:
This device sounds really great! Apple has already brought out the IPhone 5 not to long ago, and now they are putting a Mini IPad out. The Mini IPad would be a great thing for business people to help them with their work. Business people does not want to have all of the stuff on the phones so they could just put it on the mini IPad. This could be the start of a great generation to the electronic world.

World Impact:
This device will bring more and more devices out.

Week 7!

This semester and school year is already going so fast. I am glad to be apart of the first Gaston Early College High School Freshman. I love this school and everything about it. Our building is almost done, and I can't wait to get in our building and have the real fun. Most of my friends was telling me not to do it, because I wouldn't know anyone there and it wouldn't be any fun. I still came and I proved them wrong. I meet amazing and wonderful people, I am never alone, and we always have fun!
This week has went so fast, but we learned a lot of stuff. This week we learned about how to keep yourself and others safe online and off. Our words this week was:
  • Self-Disclosure: sharing private, sensitive, or confidential information about yourself to others.
  • Reciprocate: to give and return.
  • Sexting: sending or receiving sexually explicit photo or videos by text or other devices.
When we did Digital Drivers License I found some cool facts about sexting, like how sexting ( sex texting) has become a popular digital access issue and a concern with all the users of technologies. More than a quarter of young people say they have been involved in sexting is some form.
The problem about  how girls/guys that you never think that will do sexting usually are the ones that do it. Mostly girls are the ones taking the pictures and sending it to the boyfriends that ask for the pictures or they will break up with them. Boys that ask for the pictures and say that they love you are lairs. I they want I picture and are just saying "I love u" just to get a little picture, are guys that shouldn't deserve girlfriends. If you are in this situation then here is some things that can help you out.

Ways to avoid sexting:
  1. Don't text back.
  2. Break up with them if they don't respect you.
  3. Don't try to avoid them at school. That will only make things worse.
  4. Don't send the pictures.
  5. Stay away from people that do sexting.
  6. Don't carry yourself as a sex toy.
Sexting

Ways to build a relationship online:
  1. Stay positive.
  2. Have nice comments.
  3. Don't give them any ideas.
  4. Be true to yourself and others.
  5. Don't put others down.
  6. Don't fully trust strangers online.
Having a relationship online.

This week we made comic strips about sexting and how to avoid it. We made our comic strips on Make Beliefs Comix! Also we did another one on building a relationship online. I placed the comic strips beside the facts. I hope that you have enjoyed my blog this week. I know I am starting to like early college much better. See you next week!

Week 6

Create your own mind maps at MindMeister

This week we learned lots of new stuff. We learned how to make maps online! like the one above, I made at MindMeister.com. This week we learned a lot of new words that we put in our maps.
  • Authority: Look for the sponsoring agency and the authors.
  • Sources: Insist that the web site can back it up.
  • Purpose: Mission statements, typically in a link called "About Us."
  • Evenness: Check if it is bias and see that issues have equal coverage.
  • Coverage: Check the reputation.
  • Timeliness: Sometimes web sites have articles that are individually dated. If these dates current, you have a clue that the site is maintained and updated on a regular basis.
When we made our maps, I really didn't know what to do but I learned how to use it. I really like Mind Meister since I got to play with it and made a map on A.S.P.E.C.T.

The internet has so much stuff on it, we barley know whats on it, Anyone and everyone can put something on the internet and pretend that it is true, but it really ain't. This week on Online Driver's license we learned a lot on how to tell if a website is real or fake. This will really help me and other people to find correct information to use for papers and projects. Here is some questions that you can ask yourself to look for a good website.
  1. When was the information published or posted?
  2. Has the information been revised or updated?
  3. Does your topic require current information, or will older sources work as well?
  4. are links functional, or working?
Information must be accurate, authoritative, objective, and current to use the best websites.

This week has been an awesome week for me. I love it here at Gaston Early College High School. We finally heard that our school is done with inspections and they are moving furniture and smart boards in next week! That means we will be moving in the following week. I don't mind at all waiting a little longer because being here time just flies by. I am glade we are getting our new building because I have so much books. My friends and I went to the Gaston College Libary this morning and we got tons of books. I got mostly romance and adventure books. I love have friends here and meeting new ones.

Bad Piggies!

February 13, 2010

Topic
The company, Rovio, that made cut the rope and Angry Birds, has made a new game called Bad Piggies.

Article Title
Angry Birds sequel 'Bad Piggies' launches tomorrow we go hands-on

Article Source

Summary
In December 2009, the game studio Rovio let out "Angry Birds" and "cut the rope." Bad Piggies is a game where you can create your own type of vehicle to transport the piggy to your goal point. You can get the game tomorrow, and it comes out on iOS devices, Mac, and Android.

Reaction
I love Angry Birds so I can't wait till Bad Piggies come out. I will get a new phone soon and I will have all of the games on it. I think Bad Piggies will never compete to Angry Birds or Cut The Rope, because everyone love those games and just building a vehicle and then letting the pig go doesn't so much fun but I'm going to try it out. I have saw some photos of the game and I am not sure if it is going to be more/as fun as Angry Birds or Cut The Rope. The blog says that it is going to have some features the Angry birds have like "quick, fun gameplay, colorful characters, goofy sounds, and accessibility."

World Impact
I think this will impact the world on how they play so many games. I love playing games but sometimes people can get obsessed with them. It will be okay if you have a game on your phone and just play it when you get board, but not if you are playing it all the time like in school and in class. People should love this game because Angry Birds and Cut The Rope was so popular. I can't wait to try this game. Remember it comes out tomorrow morning!

    New things! on week 9/17-9/21

This week we learned many things like how we got on the online driver's license and how it taught people about bullying and how it could really hurt somebody. It has really taught some new stuff and how to treat people online now. This week on Sunday I local girl killed herself, because she was getting bullied.

On some of the tests on the online driver's license I learned some facts and wrote them down. Some of y'all are going to be surprised with some of these facts. I know I was.
    • Almost 80% of teens own a cell phone.
    • About 4 out of 10 teens ages 13 to 17 experienced some type of cyber bullying in the previous year.
    • About three-quarters of kids 12-17 say they have helped others while gaming.
I have learned that everything that is online, you can delete it but some people would already see it and tell people and it will never go away.

We also learned some words this week. The words are:
    • Reputation is a general impression held by others the public.
    • Persist is to continue on and endure.
    • Context is different factors that surround information that help determine its meaning.
    • Tag/Caption is not like tagging someone in a photo or a post on Facebook but is words, terms, or a sentence describe photo or videos.

This week we also learned how some people can make photos and put fake stuff on them. There is three photos below. The first one is the original that I found on Flickr (I love Flickr by the way. It is awesome and the pictures are free to use!). The second one is a positive photo that I edited of the original. The third picture is also a picture of the original that I edited of a negative photo I did all of this at magmypic.com.

This photo I found on Flickr of a couple kissing.

    A positive photo.

    week 5

    DNA
    Got this off of Flickr-cc.

    1. Topic: Researchers traces evolution to the DNA level through snapshots of 40,000 generations.

    2. Article Title: Researchers track evolution through snapshots of 40,000 generations.

    3. Article Source: Arstechnica

    4. Summary: In 1988, Richard Lenski's lab begin with an experiment of a set of 12 bacterial cultures was started and was given a burst of sugar every day. The goal was to be able to follow major evolutionary innovations as bacteria try to outcompete their peers under near-starvation. Then in 2008, one of the 12 cultures had its big breakthrough, a sudden burst of growth powered by citrate, a chemical that was present in the mix, but not normally used by bacteria.

      5. Reaction: This events tells how bacteria can multiply. This event really don't effect me or to other people. It could effect how we look at bacteria and how it grows. Bacteria can grow amazingly and we need to learn more about it, because some bacteria can maybe help us get better of we get sick or need medicine to get better. This event could maybe lead to something greater and more amazing things.

        6. World Impact: Doing this experiment could make a chain that could lead to great things in the future. This world is getting more and more technology each and every day. DNA is very important in many different ways.

        Animoto!!!!

This photo is for love and respect for the internet.
        Its available at flickCC.com
        http://flickrcc.bluemountains.net/flickrCC/index.php
        date of picture: 04/03/07

Monday we learned how to do parts of speech, parts of sentence, and tell what phrases and clauses in a sentence. We also learned how to cite a picture on our blog! So lots of pictures are coming soon!

On Tuesday we learned a lot of things and i'm going to tell you all about them. Ethics are the principles and morals that govern people behavior, for example honesty and respect towards others. Online ethics is as it relates to Internet and digital devices. Digital Citizenship is a safe, responsible, and ethical approach to functioning in a digital world. Privacy is obviously respect privacy of others online. Self-Expression and Identity is present yourself honestly and genuinely in an online world. Connected Culture is treating others kindly and respectfully, avoid cyber bullying.Last but not least Respecting Creative Work is cite others work (give credit) and ask permission. All of these words will help you not in trouble and to use the internet and other things the right way and not the wrong way.

Wednesday we made a video on Animoto.com it is really cool. You can make all kinds of videos and its a great thing to use for a presentation or for a birthday present. I have made a great video and it didn’t take me no time to make this for the stuff that we learned on Tuesday. How I made my Animoto is that our teacher told us to go to the website and make an account, then after you could pick a layout for your video and start putting pictures, the background music, and the texts. I think my Animoto is great and the best one I made yet. It will show you the basics of learning how to be respectful and kind to others and others on the internet. The most I like about it is that its free to use and has awesome tools. the least is that some layouts you can't use them unless you buy them.

This week has been great I'm finally getting the hang of Gaston Early College High School.

        Wii U

My topic about technology is the Wii U. My title of my article is Nintendo unveils $300 Wii U, coming Nov. 18. I got the article by searching "Technology" on Google and it came up Nintendo Wii U.

The Nintendo Wii U is "next-generation gaming console." It has a touchscreen controller and has 8 GB. There is two different kinds of Wii U, the basic version ( 8 GB ) that is $300 and the "deluxe" version ( 32 GB ) that is $350 and comes with extra stuff.

I feel that it is going to be a big seller to a lot of gamers. Personally I had a Nintendo when I was younger and loved it to death and I still have it! I think Nintendo and Wii coming together is really great, but is it going to make more kids unhealthy and not exercise? I just want kids to realize that there is more stuff to do outside then just on a little game system. It is okay for kids to play on the game system once and a while. I realized that since I was younger there has been less and less kids outside and doing other things then playing video games.

This can impact in good and bad ways. In good ways it can tech kids to learn and study for tests. Even little kids that are learning how to spell or learn the alphabet. In bad ways it could keep kids from listening in class or make there grades low. I think this invention would big more and more new inventions to the world.

        Friday, September 7, 2012

This week we learned how to post blogs and how to comment on blogs. Today we had to comment on someone’s blog and see what they did right or wrong.

We learned how other people can hack you. If someone gets your email and password to anything they can get into your account and even make you have a virus. They can also send viruses to other people and they will blame it on you.

Mostly if you get an email of “YOU JUST WON!!!” or “CLICK HERE!” then you click on it to find out what it is you are caught with a virus right away. If they ask you for your email they can get password and send stuff to people to make them get a virus too.

A computer virus is a small software program that spreads from computer to computer and interferes with the computer operation.A virus will might ruin your computer by deleting and adding stuff to your computer or using an email program to spread the virus or by deleting everything on a hard drive.

This week has been really hard because we are getting into work and its harder as more and more classes add more work to my list. Then on Friday someone came to us from “Rachel’s Challenge” and told us about how Rachel Scott was one of the 13 people that died in the Columbine High School shooting. There was 12 students and 1 teacher that died and Rachel was the one of the first ones to die. There was 2 guys that went to that school that shot the 13 people. Rachel wrote in a diary before she died. She knew that she was going to die young and she accepted it. Everyone saw her as nice, kind, and friendly.

Rachel’s Challenge is a program against bullying. To talk to someone that is having a bad day or don't have any friends.

        Against Smartphone Giants

        1. Topic:Against Smartphone Giants

        2. Article Title: TV Makers Join Forces Against Smartphone Giants

        3. Article Source: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/06/technology/06iht-srtvs06.html?ref=technology

        4. Summary: Berlin, Toshiba, LG Electronics and Philips Electronics is joining together to make  your TV sets to search the internet, play games, and listen to music on line with internet connected to it. For manufacturers to hold back Apple and Google, that also want the TV market, they have to develop a joint operating system because consumers will not accept more than a few competing platforms

        5. Reaction: I think this article is great. How we could do even even more stuff with technology. Technology is a great thing that we have in our country. The way that we could surf the web with our TV's is really amazing. I just hope every TV company can have a part of it.

        6. World Impact: This could be big thing for the United States. The problem I got is how is this going to effect the world? The smartphones are beginning to be a big thing mostly the IPhone. And will this help America with their life or will it make them just fall into a black hole??
